REV3 Cedar Point 2014 – The Jack Report

All year I look forward to the Rev3 Cedar Point 70.3 race. It is my priority race of the season and my goal to have a good day on the course. Because it is a big race, my parents make the trip to Ohio as well, so it is a great excuse for some family time as well. This year was even more special as it was the first time my in-laws were able to see me in an event, and that was great. However, even though I was racing and ready to go after it on Sunday, I was not the main event of the year…

Race4More Tri Rock Lake Geneva

As most of you know, and I am sure are probably sick of hearing and reading about, I am a triathlete and a member of More Than Sport. That means that God has blessed me with the physical ability of swimming, biking and running a given number of miles on any given day. Now I am not saying that I do any of these particularly well or fast, but I am able to do them none the less which is more than many are able to say. There are however many individuals, children, veterans, and adults who for one reason or another are not able to participated in these events on their own. They are athletes in their minds, but their bodies wont allow them to do it without assistance.

I am proud to say that on Sept 13th, I will be pariticipating in the Lake Geneva Tri Rock Sprint Triathlon as an “Angel Athlete”, and together with Jeff Zematis, and Joe Emmons we will assist a disabled athlete participating in a triathlon. This race is not about me, it is about giving back and helping someone else achieve their goals and live their dreams but in order to do so, I need your help.

Lake Zurich Triathlon Race Report

TopImage
It has been quite some time since my last post, but it’s only because life has been so great and busy. I have race reports I still need to finish from earlier in the season but knew I needed to write this report right away because this past weekend was a new, MORE meaningful kind of race success thanks to the generosity of so many people coming together for a common goal.

Lavaman Race Report

Eboost

The first race of my season came early for me. I was invited by More Than Sport to race the Lavaman Wiakoloa Olyimpic distance race, in Kona Hawaii, so my wife and I jumped at the opportunity. This was easily the most beautiful place I have ever been much less raced, and although there were some painful times I absolutely loved every minute of the experience.

Maximize Your Life

MaximizeYourLife

Ever since I started watching the Biggest Loser it has been a goal of mine to meet Jillian Michaels. That goal finally became a reality when my wife and I had the pleasure of attending her Maximize Your Life Tour last Thursday in Joliet.

If you’ve seen her on The Biggest Loser or listened to any of Jillian’s Podcasts before, then you know what you’re getting: A fun, yet serious, no BS approach to life and change.  I absolutely love this approach; There’s no sugar coating and no excuses. You either do it or your don’t. The choice is yours.  The show is a close companion to her book, “Unlimited: A Three Step Plan for Achieving Your Dreams”, and is broken down into 3 different sections: diet, exercise, self.

Embrace the Time Off. Then Get Back At It!

MyViewThisWeek

This week was a tough one. As the owner of a small business you never know when, or where the work is going to come from, or how much of it will come all at one time. This past two weeks has been amazing for work, not so much for the training. There was a good stretch there where bed time had gotten moved to 3am, with wake up calls at 7am. Needless to say 4 hours of sleep is barely enough to function just walking around, much less try to swim, bike or run.

Eboost Your Life!

Eboost1My wife and I don’t go to bed early, in fact somedays we set a goal just to wake up and go to sleep in the same day. So mornings come pretty quickly in our house, especially on days after a hockey game (hockey hangovers are the worst) and we are not coffee drinkers. Luckily for us we found Eboost.

Eboost is an all natural caffeine and immunity boosting mix that you add to water. It has a specific blend of vitamins, minerals, and super-nutrients and works from within to give you a natural lift. It’s packed with ingredients like Vitamins C, D, B6, B12, as well as 5-HTP, Resveratrol, Green Tea, and Green Coffee. It is the perfect pick me up for the morning, pre-workout, or pre-race.

Sick and Tired of Sick and Tired.

SickAndTired

I love nothing more than being a dad, my kids mean the world to me and I would do anything and everything for them. I am most happy when we are doing something together, working on pinewood derby cars, riding bikes to school, playing in the pool, or going out for a walk. The last two weeks we have spent a different kind of time together, we have all been sick. UGH!

I am a man, so generally I am no good at being sick, I become wimpy, a bit whiney, and complain about everything. I am not proud of it, but its what I do. This time it was even worse because I was smack dab in the middle of some base training and doing really well with consistency. I could see gains in my fitness, my swimming felt like it was coming together and I was feeling confident in my long runs. Then Jack got sick. DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN.

Do More Update

In case you may have missed it, I am a member of More Than Sport. What is More Than Sport, you ask? We’ll I will gladly tell you… It is an organization dedicated to encouraging athletes to give back and participate in sport for a greater good than themselves. I am dedicating this race season to raising money for Hope To Give and Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Over the past three years, the Hope To Give team has been working hard to help the hospital purchase a portable Ultrasound Machine for the Rheumatology Department. This would give doctors the ability to provide those tiny patients, that we all love so much, immediate care and information resulting in a more accurate diagnosis and better treatment. If you would like to make a donation of any size you can do so here at my fundraising page.

I understand that my goal to raise $10,000 is lofty. I also understand that money is tight with everyone so I have to be realistic. That being said, and I am going to be brutally honest here, my fundraising has been dismal at best.  I have had limited interest from those I have contacted so I am trying to sweeten the pot, so to speak. I am going to offer you some incentives for donating your hard earned dollars.

I Love Hockey

2Seasons

Lycra and Sweaters

For me there are only two seasons in a given year. There is race season and hockey season. So with the weather changing and the leaves falling it means its time to trade in the lycra and the bike, and step in to my skates and on to the ice. In my opinion there is no greater sport than hockey. It tests your endurance, your mental and physical toughness, forms bonds of friendship. It’s fast paced, and action packed. There is the thrill of the goal, the tension of a big save. Hockey is a complete experience every time. There is a classic line in the movie “The Cutting Edge” when Douglas Dorsey talks about how he loves the smell of the ice and anyone that has ever played hockey can instantly relate to it, and totally understands. For me there is something magical about the ice rink, the cool crisp air, the smell of the zamboni, the overall atmosphere is one big happy memory.  On top of that, for the past 2 seasons I have been able to skate with my little brother and in both of those years we have won the Championship. It’s safe to say that I love the game.
